The Arcadia Surf Life Saving Club relied on a holding tank for the removal, transport and disposal of wastewater.  The public toilets constructed prior to the 1970s used absorption trenches for on-site wastewater disposal. Periodically, the absorption trenches failed, resulting in effluent discharging to the surface.  This problem is often the result of wet weather or high utilisation by the public. The preferred option was therefore to install a package pump station in Alma Bay Park to service the public amenities.
