An existing section of 600NB cast iron pipeline of the Eastern Suburbs Pressure Main (between the valve pits on Seventh Street and Sixth Street, South Townsville) had reached the end of its design life.  The purpose of this project was to install its replacement. The new pipeline was constructed with 381m of 813 OD mild steel pipe (CA Cement Lined Sintakote), creating a continuously welded steel pipeline with an inline electronic flow meter. Spherical slip-in welded joints were used for general jointing; and butt joints with welded collars were used for connections with fittings. The pipeline was installed to various depths with the deepest point being 3.8 metres deep. The pipeline was installed in an existing trafficable roadway with residential houses on both sides of the road. This section of bitumen roadway was replaced after the pipeline was installed.
